Projects
Mini Projects:
Mini projects will be graded on the response of the group to questions contained within the written description as well as the proper functioning of the project.
Making Lights Dim--These circuits will show you ways to make a circuit in which the the light will dim automatically or manually.
Making a Simple Security System--This circuit project, borrowed from the Concord Consortium's Hands On Physics Project, introduces the use of transistors in circuits. This circuit sounds an alarm if a switch is tripped.
The Audio Oscillator Metronome--This circuit project creates a variable tone using a system of transistors, resistors, and capacitors. It introduces the 555 timer chip.
Final Project:
The Synthesizer--Making use of a 555 chip and several capacitors, a sound synthesizer can be created.
The final project will be graded based upon a rubric.
Independent Projects:
??????--Each group will decide upon a circuit to make. It can be any from one of several reference books, a completely independent design, or a combination of pieces from previous projects.
